New Deepin 15.10 Released Using KDE Technology

Who knows my project OSystematicYou know I have a great deal of appreciation for the distribution, and even after several changes and decisions (which I don't agree with at all) the distraction still has a little space in my chest.

With each update Deepin gets changes, either visual or under the cap, and this time was no different.

deepin15.10-deepin-debian-stable-unstable-kde-dde-qt-linux As usual, a new Deepin update means several bug fixes made. And this always recurs, as a new release. I will follow only the most significant changes, and if you want to see in depth the changes and bug fixes in the system, access Deepin's official statement.

Deepin on a more conservative basis

Debian is known to be the "universal system", which runs even on potato (), however another feature attributed to it is that of great stability, for its strict packaging, upgrades and changes policy. And Deepin is based on it, however, previous versions were based on Debian Unstable, which is considered less stable, but not so "frozen" packages. Behold, Deepin version 15.10 changes its base to Debian Stable, considered the most stable version of the system. deepin15.10-deepin-debian-stable-unstable-kde-dde-qt-linux

That's what Deepin's development team expects, a more stable and secure system that drinks straight from the source of the famous Debian Stable. However, this change may not please all audiences (including myself), as it may mean versions of older libraries and drivers, and for a gamer, having the latest versions of drivers on the system is almost a law.

Since its base move from Ubuntu to Debian, Deepin has lost some very interesting features that Ubuntu provides. One of these is the possibility of adding Mesa Drivers PPA and NVidia drivers PPA. Of course you can try to install a "PPA on Debian" or download the driver version directly from Nvidia's Deepin website, but as the great would say "The IT Guy"," this is going to be a birth "().

New Features in DDE

Deepin's interface has received new features, and has changed some ways of use, one of them being the ability to organize the desktop in a "almost magical" way.

This new "merge automatically" option groups distributed desktop files according to their type into name folders: Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, Applications, and Others. The inspiration is clearly made upon the feature presented by Apple in the latest macOS.

Another addition was the enhancement of its sidebar that groups options. This time the category into which the system's sound effects are grouped received several "switches" on each sound option. So you can choose whether a certain sound effect will be activated or not, this goes for startup sounds, emptying the trash, system notifications, and so on, as we have in the Cinnamon graphic environment.

Now the system has the ability to display a slide of your wallpapers, changing in time the background images. Previously a third party application was required for such behavior to be reproduced on the system. deepin15.10-deepin-debian-stable-unstable-kde-dde-qt-linux-slide-wallpaper

New window manager

If you don't know what a window manager is, basically he who "draws" windows, adds the effects and everything else you see on your screen ("summarizing very briefly")

And Deepin decided to leave its old window manager deepin-wm and fork the KDE Plasma window manager kWin. We can see that as time goes on, Deepin gets closer and closer to the "Qt side", and now with its new dde-kWin window manager, it intends to have lower RAM consumption and faster task speeds.

However, this shift from deepin-wm to dde-kWin has caused a change in their behavior in multitask and virtual desktops, taking away some of their beauty and organization. Fit system users to adapt with this new form of multitask and virtual desktops.

Deepin is a system that we always expect a visual upgrade, and because expectations are always high, some points may disappoint you and others may draw your attention, so see below the Deepin 15.10 promo video, with such a demonstration you can see on practice these visual changes.

Until the next post, SYSTEMATICALLY!
