Earlier this week, we commented that the new and monumental Apple Sanlitun, in Beijing (China), was about to be opened – which, in fact, did not take long: the store opened its doors yesterday (7/16), with a press release and everything.
Apple Sanlitun was the first Apple store in China and was adjacent to the new unit, at the Taikoo Li Sanlitun shopping center. The new space is twice the original size and presents a series of novelties in relation to the design of Chinese Apple Stores.
In that sense, the newly opened store has many of Apple’s recent retail design updates, including a Forum, an exhibition gallery and a meeting room. Apple Sanlitun also introduces the first solar panel integrated into an Apple Store in China – the set will supply power to the store, which, like all Apple facilities worldwide, operates on renewable energy.
Glass panels of just over ten meters, made in China, make the barrier between the inside and outside of the store, and the stairs on both sides (similar to those of the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park) run parallel to the steps “to create greater transparency and flow”. The floors are covered with stone, while trees of a typical Beijing species have been planted on the terrace (Sophora japonica, or Japanese Acacia).
The store now houses 185 team members, who “will open a new era for Apple in Beijing”, as highlighted by Apple’s head of retail + people, Deirdre O’Brien:
This store sets a new standard for Apple’s retail in China and we are excited to continue our history in Beijing. We look forward to operating Apple Sanlitun and all of our stores around the world, with the health and safety of our customers and teams as our top priority.
Speaking of health and safety, the new Apple Sanlitun is being opened with the same health and safety procedures currently adopted at all company retail locations, whether for employees or visitors – including wearing a mask, temperature checks and social distance before the entrance and inside the store.
Apple also reopened its retail store in Reston (in Virginia, United States), now in a whole new space. The new store (more than twice the size of the previous one) was opened after more than a year of planning and construction work. The information is Tech Times.
The new Apple Reston has a white quartz and glass facade – similar to the Apple Clarendon and Apple Pentagon City – as well as a revolving door. There is also a new space for holding the sessions of the Today at Apple and Genius service – however, all of these services are restricted due to the pandemic of the new Coronavirus (COVID-19), in some cases working only with appointments.
Also because of this, a crowded celebration at this time would be not only unsafe, but unwise. Thus, Apple opted for online disclosure and put only a small notice in the windows of the new store.
