Anyone who has used Mac for a long time should remember this name: NetNewsWire, a famous aggregator of feeds (RSS).
There in 2006 (!) It still occupied the first place in my Dock after the Finder, but started to lose out that year with the (re) launch of Google Reader, at least for me. In 2008 NetNewsWire became free, it even got a new version in 2009 and even an app for iPhone, but it didn't work. In 2011, the original developer of the app Brent Simmons decided to sell it to Black Pixel (also responsible for the Kaleidoscope app).
In mid-2013 NetNewsWire 4.0 went into beta, but again it was forgotten. At yesterday:
Sorry, app not found.
The new version of NetNewsWire for Mac is very cool, with a modern look but maintaining its classic style. It comes with tabs, list of popular websites, various sharing options, organization of articles and websites, reading without distractions, among others. Not only are all the features before, but a good part is already there.
At the same time, a new version for iPhones / iPods touch also came out:
Sorry, app not found.
It comes very similar to the Mac version, leaving something to be desired just because it is not universal. But Black Pixel has already promised to release an update making it compatible with iPads soon.
For those who buy the apps, Black Pixel is offering NetNewsWire Cloud Sync for free, which keeps everything (read articles, favorites, organization, etc.) synchronized across all your devices. Fundamental resource, by the way.
Welcome back, NetNewsWire!
