Apple TV +: Netflix CEO speaks of “tough competition”;  Prince Harry says Oprah program could "save lives"

Looking forward to the launch of Apple TV +? Know that you are not alone (and I am not talking about me). The CEO of Netflix, Reed Hastings, can’t wait either, but he has his concerns (obviously), according to a new report from Variety.

Hastings’ apprehension would be no less: in addition to Apple TV +, the Disney + it will also be launched in November, meaning Netflix will have to dance to not lose subscribers to either of the two prosperous (and giants) services. Knowing this, the executive stated that it will be “a completely new world starting in November” and that Netflix will have “tough competition”, but that the company will continue to follow its strategy of offering TV shows and films “that people simply love ”.

Although we have competed with many people in the past decade, it will be a whole new world starting in November, between the launch of Apple and Disney and, of course, the expansion of Amazon. It will be a tough competition. Customers will have many options to choose from.

Amid the emergence of so many new health services streaming video, Hastings pointed out that the production costs of TV shows in this niche will increase thanks to companies like Apple and Disney, which now also compete for «valuable production space in highly sought after areas». According to him, one day investments in the series «The Crown» (which may not be one of the most expensive of all, but is among the most expensive productions for Netflix) will look like a “bargain”.

Remember that Disney + will be launched on November 12 with a huge catalog of films and TV shows from the cinema giant, including productions from some of its largest subsidiaries, such as Marvel, Pixar and National Geographic. In addition, Apple will offer one year of free subscription to its service when purchasing an iPhone, iPad or Mac, while Disney will offer three years of subscription for the price of two.

Last April, we reported that the Prince Harry would do a mental health program with the American presenter Oprah Winfrey for Apple TV +, but until then the specific role of the Duke of Sussex in the production had not been disclosed. Now, a new interview from The Telegraph it gives even more details about the royal family member’s endeavor in creation.

According to the article, Prince Harry idealized production with Oprah and since then he has been acting as executive producer of the series, which is due to be released next year:

When [o príncipe Harry] met Oprah Winfrey and realized his shared passion for mental health, the idea for the series was born. And he’s been around ever since, with the Duke organizing numerous meetings in London with Oprah and helping to select the creative team behind it…

For now, we know that the series will focus on breaking the stigma and shame surrounding mental illness – showing examples of people who have struggled with the “darkest feelings in their lives”, as Prince Harry puts it. The purpose of production, for the Duke, is to help save lives:

If viewers can relate to the pain and perhaps the experience [dos participantes], this can save lives, as we will focus on prevention and the positive results of these cases.

Harry also says that he and Oprah felt a huge responsibility to «get it right», especially since mental health is a topic close to the Prince – who revealed, in 2017, how close he came to a «mental breakdown» after the death of his mother, Princess of Wales Daiana, who passed away in 1997.

Apple also released a collection of new trailers and sneak peeks of your original productions recently. Some of them were shown during the Emmy, which took place yesterday (9/22) in Los Angeles, California.

The trailer also features Steinfeld’s new song, «Afterlife», created especially for the series. Along with the trailer, the company released a sneak peek Steinfeld as the poet Emily Dickinson, in which she does a little monologue, see:

«Dickinson» will be among the first original programs to be released with Apple TV +, on November 1st.

«For All Mankind»

Apple also published a short video to publicize its special series «For All Mankind». The excerpt focuses on female empowerment by highlighting astronaut Tracy Stevens, played by actress Sarah Jones.

In the video, you can hear the voice of a man who says, “Look at you, Tracy Stevens. You will be a candidate for astronaut. ” Stevens replies, “No. One day I will be an astronaut. ”

Apple also published a sneak peek of the series, with an emphasis on the time when the former Soviet Union (USSR) arrived on the Moon (before the Americans, as proposed by the series). Check the reaction of the Americans, in shock:

Take off with Snoopy as he fulfills his dreams of becoming a NASA astronaut. Accompanied by Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang, Snoopy takes command of the International Space Station and explores the Moon and beyond.

«Snoopy in Space» it will also be available from the 1st of November.


The new trailer for «See», with Jason Momoa, highlights the importance of the Baba Voss twins (played by Momoa) who can see through a blind population.

The drama will also premiere on November 1st.
