«Net sobre Rodas» was the name chosen for an itinerant action that officially started last Friday and with which it is intended to raise awareness and mobilize the populations of Entre Douro and Vouga for information and communication technologies (ICT).
Through the action, which was funded by the Knowledge Society Operational Program, two vehicles equipped with portable computers connected to the Internet via a wireless network will travel through the five municipalities covered by the project – Arouca, Oliveira de Azeméis, São João da Madeira, Santa Maria da Feira and Vale de Cambra) to train citizens in the use of equipment.
The two monitors that accompany each van will visit schools, companies, nursing homes and institutions, among other places, says a statement from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education.
The «Net on Wheels» is part of the Entre Douro e Vouga Digital (EDV Digital) project, «an initiative of the Entre Douro e Vouga Development Agency under the Digital Cities and Regions Program, which aims to contribute to the improvement of quality of life, education, the provision of services to the community, access to culture and knowledge, as well as the competitiveness of companies in the counties of the Entre Douro and Vouga Region, through the generalization of access to ICTs «, explains communicated.
