MusicBrainz Picard is an open source, cross-platform software developed by the MetaBrainz Foundation, which is also responsible for the MusicBrainz database. Picard can, with just one click, find various music albums in different formats, such as MP3, FLAC, OGG, M4A, WMA, WAV, among others.

Using AcoustID audio fingerprints, files are identified and compared to the songs in the database, all without metadata being present in your files or incomplete. Editing the tags of your songs with the program is very practical.

Some news from MusicBrainz Picard 2.2

Several bugs were fixed, fixing bugs in their versions, either for Windows, Linux, macOS, etc.

Other more technical features have been added, if interested, visit this link and see the details. A novelty that can highlight, among others, the addition of a built-in music player. The feature is still beta, but simplifying the act of editing tags and other settings. Saving time by not having to use another player together. Something simple, but one that comes to add and make everything easier. You can still choose from another installed player, remember that as it is a feature in beta, bugs may occur with this new function. musicbrainz-picard-metabrainz-music-audio-album-cd-meta-tag-info-mp4-m4a-ogg-mp3-flac-editor

Installation of MusicBrainz Picard 2.2

There are versions of the app for many platforms, I will demonstrate to Ubuntu via PPA, Flatpak and Snap to encompass as many Linux distributions as possible. Alis, Flatpak the way I advise and use the software on Linux. Other distributions may either install the Flathub version, which I will demonstrate below, or access the link Linux and choose as per your distro on the official Picard website (Snap also an option).

Download the version according to your operating system:

Picard via PPA

Ubuntu and derivative users can install Picard via PPA as I will show, however, I reinforce that the use of Flatpak and Snap decreases the obligation of such method.

Adding Picard's Stable PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: musicbrainz-developers / stable

Updating the package list:

sudo apt update

Installing Picard:

sudo apt install picard

If you want to remove Picard via PPA, uninstall the program and then remove your PPA.

Removing Picard:

sudo apt removes picard

Removing PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository -r ppa: musicbrainz-developers / stable

Picard via Flatpak

Another way to get Picard via Flatpak. The program is in the repository Flathub, making it easy to install on major Linux distributions. Linux Mint users can search the store directly for Linux, if you are using Ubuntu, don't worry, this post demonstrates Flatpak configuration and added Flathub in the Canonical system. So just search the store for Picard flatpak and install the app. musicbrainz-picard-metabrainz-music-sound-album-cd-meta-tag-info-mp4-m4a-ogg-mp3-flac-editor-ppa-ubuntu-snap-mint-flatpak-flathub-snapcraft Users from other distros can configure Flatpak on their systems. by this link. J o Flatpak Official GuideIn addition to demonstrating the configuration, it teaches you how to add the Flathub repository. If you prefer to do everything via terminal, here are the commands below.

Adding the Flathub Repository:

flatpak remote-add –if-not-exists flathubhttps: //flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo

Installing Picard Flatpak:

flatpak install flathub org.musicbrainz.Picard

The removal can be as follows:

flatpak remove org.musicbrainz.Picard

Picard via Snap

Picard is also at SnapcraftIt is noteworthy that as of this writing, this version is in 2.1 and I did not find it on the Picard website under a Snap package. Probably this Snap packaged by Canonical people, without involvement of Fundao MetaBrainz.

Installing Picard Snap:

sudo snap install picard

Removing Picard Snap:

sudo snap remove picard

Picard is a very interesting application, especially with its huge database, but if you want other alternatives EasyTag and Pudding are recommended and worth the test.
