Here's what Apple says about the movie:

“The Water Form” is one of the rare cases of feature films that go beyond genre to be recognized as a masterpiece of cinema. Mexican Guillermo del Toro mixes social criticism and horror fantasy to actually build a delicate romance between a dumb cleaning lady (Sally Hawkins) and an aquatic creature (Doug Jones) trapped in a military facility during the 1960s. Awarded four Oscars, including best film and directing, the filmmaker exhibits all his well-known direction of Gothic art in exciting and spectacular sequences.

As usual, our reader Renato Alan Promenzio (@tripalavra), who is a cameraman, also sent us a personalized comment about the movie:

Maybe my opinion about the Movie of the week Don't be unnime, but let's go. Guillermo del Toro as always conducted a film with an exotic look. As in The Labyrinth of the Faun, its plots use extravagant characters and everyday elements to deliver many everyday subliminal realities, others directly but always tied to their scripts in shades. dark. They are almost always unsure if we will see a horror or drama in disguise. About this movie itself, I thought it was good, but not one that I would pledge to see several times and or consider an Oscar worthy. I go further: the other movie I quoted above, I find better and more attractive.
