After experiencing the dystopia of “The Hunger Games”, director Gary Ross dives into the history books. This era drama inspired by the life of Newton Knight (Matthew McConaughey), a Confederate defector who rebelled against his own army in the American Civil War and founded an independent territory in Mississippi. Ross masters the scenes of the brutal battles with mastery, and the cast responds with the same intensity.

150 years after the abolition of slavery in the USA, there is still much to be told and it could not be different with this Movie of the week. Based on real facts, Matthew McConaughey chose his character by hand and this is a constant in the actor's routine especially after he won the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in “Clube de Compras Dallas”, he has been seeking to diversify and show the public that he can do more. The script for “Um Estado de Liberdade” is good, the cast is likewise, but the reception of the criticism was not good and the low audience at the box office made the film sink. I consider it good and, before you ask me, yes, it is available on DVD, streaming among others, but the difference here that you can buy and watch when and how many times you want. I recommend!
