Motorola targets the flagship market with the new Edge and Edge +

Following the opposite path taken by some manufacturers, the Motorola decided to launch two new devices aimed predominantly at the market flagship: The Edge it's the Edge +.

The above finding is based on the assumption that Motorola generally targets the entry and intermediate markets. Want an example? The last truly device premium from the manufacturer, Moto Z2 Force, was launched in 2017 despite exceeding the $ 1,000 barrier, the foldable Motorola razr not considered one flagship, for several reasons.

Marketing discussions partly, the fact that the manufacturer has released two devices with very strong features, which will certainly compete with other Android devices, especially those from Samsung.

Motorola Edge

The "simplest" model, called Edge only, has a 6.7-inch OLED screen, Full HD + resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. Both he and his brother have curved sides of the screen similar to what Samsung had been offering for a while to display notifications, call alerts and battery status.

Processing is up to the chip Snapdragon 765G which, while not the most advanced version of the line, will certainly deliver enough power to the target audience. It also comes with 128GB of internal storage and 6GB of RAM.

Now, the cameras: on the back, the main sensor has 64 megapixels, accompanied by a 16MP wide-angle lens and an 8MP telephoto lens; there is also a ToF sensor, that is, the entire set allows you to take pictures with 2x optical zoom and capture videos with a resolution of up to 4K, at 30 frames per second. The front camera, for selfies, has 25MP.

All of this powered by a battery with an internal capacity of 4,500mAh, with support for fast charging of 15W. Finally, he has the infamous biometric reader (fingerprints) under the screen.

Motorola Edge +

Here, in fact, is the model flagship. The difference in design is minimal: we also have a 6.7-inch OLED screen, with the same Full HD + resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. The differential is due to the HDR10 + support.

Front and rear of Edge +

in the processing that the two devices start to distance themselves, since the Edge + equipped with a Snapdragon 865, top-of-the-line chip from Qualcomm. The internal storage is twice that of the other version (256GB), as well as the RAM (12GB).

The specification of the cameras flagship (front and rear) are also similar to the "simpler" model with the exception of the main sensor, which has 108MP. With this, it is possible to record videos with resolution up to 6K, as well as obtain background blur in real time.

The battery, in turn, has a greater capacity of 5,000mAh, rechargeable from a more powerful source (TurboPower) of 18W. THE flagship It is also compatible with induction and bilateral loading.

5G Connectivity

Just like basically any launch since last year, one of the highlights is the5G. In this sense, Edge + supports networks both at sub-6GHz frequencies and millimeter waves (mmWave), which allow for higher rates as the simplest version is only compatible with sub-6GHz frequencies.

In addition, the manufacturer explained that the model top-of-the-line has global compatibility with 5G and can reach speeds that exceed 4Gb / s. In Brazil, it is expected that the implantation of 5G will only occur from 2022.

Price and availability

In the United States, Edge + will be launched on May 14 exclusively through the operator Verizon (as in other Motorola launches) from $ 1,000; Edge did not have its value informed, as it should be launched later. In Europe, the Edge + cost 1,200 and the Edge 600.

Both models will also be available in Brazil, but there are still no details on price and launch date.
