Motorola Migration: How Data Transfer Works for Moto G

As Motorola MigrationMotorola offers its customers a simple solution to transfer the most important data from their old smartphone. Call, contact, SMS, photo and music stories are transferred by the app via Wi-Fi to the new Motorola device. We tested it with Moto G.

<p>Setting up a new smartphone costs a lot of time and patience. Buyers of a Moto X or Moto G rely on the Motorola Migrate app for this. The app automatically transfers important data from the old device to the new one.</p><div class='code-block code-block-2' style='margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;'>

Preparation for the transfer

The app is factory-installed on Moto G and Moto X. To use it, however, you also need to install it on your old device. In the Play Store you can download it for free. It is compatible with any version of Android from 2.2.

<p>To begin the download, launch the app on both devices. In Moto G will appear a screen with the contents that will be transferred. Unfortunately at this point there is no possibility to choose or eliminate individual points. The Average point, for example, can become a problem: if you have a lot of music and photos saved, transferring can take a long time. In addition, the new device may not have enough memory space.</p>
<div class='code-block code-block-3' style='margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;'>

<style>
.ai-rotate {position: relative;}
.ai-rotate-hidden {visibility: hidden;}
.ai-rotate-hidden-2 {position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;}
.ai-list-data, .ai-ip-data, .ai-filter-check, .ai-fallback, .ai-list-block, .ai-list-block-ip, .ai-list-block-filter {visibility: hidden; position: absolute; width: 50%; height: 1px; top: -1000px; z-index: -9999; margin: 0px!important;}
.ai-list-data, .ai-ip-data, .ai-filter-check, .ai-fallback {min-width: 1px;}
</style>

The simple solution: simply remove the SD card (if any) in advance from your old device. And remember: to transfer your contacts, I need them to be exported to the SIM card.

The process

Click Next and a QR code appears on the screen. This code should be scanned by your old device, and thus give the connection between the two devices. This is the only way to proceed.

migrate1 "sizes =" (max-width: 806px) calc (100vw - 24px), (max-width: 995px) 782px, (max-width: 1216px) calc (2 * (100vw - 30px) / 3) + 15px - 24px), 782px "src =" https://fscl01.fonpit.de/userfiles/4800583/image/migrate1-w782.jpg "srcset =" https://fscl01.fonpit.de/userfiles/4800583/image/ migrate1-w782.jpg 782w, https://fscl01.fonpit.de/userfiles/4800583/image/migrate1-w596.jpg 596w, https://fscl01.fonpit.de/userfiles/4800583/image/migrate1-w450. jpg 450w, https://fscl01.fonpit.de/userfiles/4800583/image/migrate1-w336.jpg 336w, https://fscl01.fonpit.de/userfiles/4800583/image/migrate1-w300.jpg 300w "class = "lazyload" />

<p>Now you don't have to do anything else. The data will be copied in the background, and you can use your smartphone for other things. The duration of the transfer depends on the amount of data to be passed. If you have few media files, the process will only take a few minutes.</p>
<div class='code-block code-block-4' style='margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;'>

<style>
.ai-rotate {position: relative;}
.ai-rotate-hidden {visibility: hidden;}
.ai-rotate-hidden-2 {position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;}
.ai-list-data, .ai-ip-data, .ai-filter-check, .ai-fallback, .ai-list-block, .ai-list-block-ip, .ai-list-block-filter {visibility: hidden; position: absolute; width: 50%; height: 1px; top: -1000px; z-index: -9999; margin: 0px!important;}
.ai-list-data, .ai-ip-data, .ai-filter-check, .ai-fallback {min-width: 1px;}
</style>
<div class='ai-rotate ai-unprocessed ai-timed-rotation ai-4-1' data-info='WyI0LTEiLDJd' style='position: relative;'>
<div class='ai-rotate-option' style='visibility: hidden;' data-index=

In the end, you will get a message on Moto G if the process has been completed. If storage space is not sufficient, the transfer will be interrupted. In this case, you should erase / transfer some data and start over. The device restart where it left off.

<h2 id=Conclusion

The Motorola Migration is quite practical, even though the transfer in my test didn't work out the first time. I have to be careful about the amount of photo and music files (which can be saved elsewhere). Also make sure that both devices have sufficient battery power and that your Wi-Fi connection is stable. Taking these precautions, your data will be transferred smoothly within five minutes.
