More evidence that Apple plans to adopt Retina displays on Macs comes with OS X 10.7.4

Every day, more and more indications appear about future Macs equipped with Retina screens. As we have already mentioned, the new Intel processors (Ivy Bridge) are prepared to support 4K screens; in parallel, both the current and the future Apple desktop operating system also show that this is the path.

Now, after the release of OS X 10.7.4, another clue has arrived: some icons, such as the Text Editor (TextEdit), had their maximum sizes changed from 512 Ă— 512 to 1024 Ă— 1024 pixels. To check, just select the cone, copy it (Command + C), open the application Preview and choose the option New from Clipboard (Command + N). Then, just choose the largest image and export it in JPG or PNG as you will see the file in 1024 Ă— 1024 pixels.

Another novelty was the change in the Automator icon, as we can see below:

As well as the TextEdit, the new Automatortambm icon is available in 1024 Ă— 1024 pixels. We hope that these incredible screens reach Macs in the next update, which should arrive very soon (1, 2).
