Who here remembers the rumored 12-inch MacBook? Because according to the 9to5Mac, it is even a new MacBook Air totally redesigned.Mark Gurman has already proved that he has great contacts within Apple, so the information passed by him must be analyzed with a good dose of "it will roll".
According to him, the new 12 ″ MacBook Air has a completely redesigned new housing (still retaining the drop shape, but much smaller than the current 13 ″ model, thinner than the 11 ″ model and slightly higher, to accommodate the larger screen). Due to the new thickness, the traditional USB connectors, MagSafe and SD card slot will not be part of this new machine.
The keyboard will be a little more squeezed than the current ones, in order to allow this decrease in the total size of the computer. To keep the smallest size possible and place a 12-inch screen (Retina, say) in a space that used to fit an 11 ″ computer, the large margins of the display will give way to much thinner ones.
The trackpad should keep the same width, gaining more height, it will also lose its physical “click”. Some keys have been relocated (see the power button that is now the first from left to right), as well as the hole for the speakers that are also different which also serve as ventilation for this computer that does not have fans.
On the sides, we will have only one input for headphones, two microphones (one for noise cancellation) and a new USB port (standard Type-C). This bug would be so thin that Apple people are calling it “MacBook Stealth”!
But wait: how are we going to reload this thing? Through the new USB port, which is now able to provide enough power for this. In doing so, however, users will use most of the time the only port the MacBook has. So it is likely that Apple will also offer some sort of hub / adapter so that we can recharge the MacBook Air and use that port for another purpose.
Nothing was said about possible silver and gold versions (following the colors of iPhones and iPads); space gray, yes. It is possible that this new machine has a darker color than the current ones, as the image above indicates.
Still according to Gurman, this is the idea of launch that Apple has for the moment. Of course, a lot can still change until this new MacBook Air actually reaches the market, the company may, for example, give up on doing something so fine, putting back some doors. As for the launch date, with the arrival of new chips from Intel (“Broadwell” family), everything would now be in Apple's hands.
It will be that typical product that people will either love (due to portability) or hate (due to lack of connectivity).
