MM Answers: how to manage photos of multiple users in a single library of the Photos app?

The question of the day:

How do I manage photos from multiple users in one photo library in the Photos app?

Unlike what happens in iTunes, where each backup occupies a separate space, when importing your photos to a photo library, the Photos application does not have any separation, putting all files together. One option is to create individual photo libraries and, at each opening of Photos, select the desired photo library.

For some people, this works well; in other cases, mainly with a lot of users, the thing usually becomes a mess and those we will focus on!

Key words

The idea of ​​working with a mixture of smart albums and key words. With each new import, the person responsible for them will have to add their name or whatever they want to identify their photos with keywords.

To add keywords directly through their manager, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Photos app;
  2. In the Photos contextual menu, see Keyword Manager window (K);

  1. Click on “Edit keywords” and then click on the “+” icon;
  2. Double click on the new space to type the name;

  1. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each user (Marcelo, Marco, Alana, etc.);
  2. Click "OK".

Smart album

Like a smart folder or a playlist smart, the smart album works based on predefined user criteria. Certain photos, which follow certain criteria, will be presented in these albums automatically.

For each member that you have created a password for and that you want to view, a smart album must be created following the following steps:

  1. In Photos, click New Smart Album Archive (N)
  2. Define a name for your album (ex: “Marcelo”);
  3. In the item "Match the following condition:", select "Keyword", then "" and then "Marcelo";

  1. Click "OK". You must repeat these steps for each member.

Importing photos

From now on, for each photo import, the following steps will be necessary:

  1. After the photos have been imported, open the automatic album “Last Import”;
  2. Select all photos (A);
  3. Open the photo information (I);
  4. Add the name corresponding to the person who made the import and press "Enter";
