(Updated) A problem that affected several Microsoft Security Essentials download sites forced the temporary suspension of access to Microsoft’s free anti-virus, which yesterday had been made available in Portuguese, as TeK reported.
The message that is now displayed on the download link is that it is not available for the Portuguese market and Portugal has even been removed from the list of countries for which the anti-virus is located.
Questioned by TeK, Microsoft explains that the technical problem was related to an error in the rights to use the user license and that access “was temporarily suspended until the matter is resolved”.
“We are working to restore the affected Microsoft Security Essentials download sites as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience you may have caused. We thank our valued customers for their patience,” the company said in a formal statement.
It is recalled that the software was launched in September 2009, but was only available in eight languages and 19 markets, with Portugal being relegated to a second phase. Meanwhile, the number of locations has been expanded and the anti-virus is currently available in 25 languages and 74 markets.
Editor’s Note: [13:51] However, the situation is already normalized and the website is now available, as well as the download link, as some attentive readers have already noticed.
