Microsoft postpones end of support for older versions of Windows 10 due to the COVID-19 pandemic

In the face of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Microsoft decided to postpone the end of support for versions 1709 and 1809 of Windows 10. The tech giant will continue it for another six months to help users and businesses that use to remain focused on ensuring the continuity of their business.

In a statement, Microsoft indicates that it is following the evolution of the pandemic and the way in which the rapid spread of the disease is having a profound impact. Thus, in the case of Windows 10 versions 1709, support will continue until October 13 of this year, the date on which the last security update will be released. Versions 1709 were due to end on April 14th.

Microsoft indicates that the 1809 versions of the operating system will be supported until November 10 instead of May 12. The company further clarifies that it will pause feature updates for the Home and Pro editions, keeping users abreast of any changes to the Windows 10 message center.

The company clarifies that support for version 1809 of Windows Server ends on November 10. The latest security update for the Configuration Manager version 1810 will arrive on December 1. Support for SharePoint Server 2010, SharePoint Foundation 2010, and Project Server 2010 will also continue until October 13.

The changes made will not have an impact on the support end dates of the remaining versions of Windows 10, as well as some programs such as Office in the 2010, 2013 editions that link to Office 365 and 2016 for Mac.
