The new version of Microsoft's email manager brings more performance and reliability, a renewed interface and compatible with Retina screens, search for archived emails via Exchange, support for Master Category List with synchronization between Mac, Windows and OWA (Outlook Web App) clients, support for pushes email via Office 365 and more.
Microsoft has published a support article for users who have Office for Mac 2011 and / or Outlook for Mac 2011 installed on their computers, with instructions on how to upgrade.

In addition to releasing the new Outlook, Microsoft today announced that it plans to make available, in the first half of 2015, a public beta version of the new Office for Mac which will include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and now also OneNote.
The final version of the new suite is expected only for the second half of next year.
