Microsoft launches Edge browser for iOS, now available in beta for those who want to test

Apple's iOS policy prevents us from setting a third-party browser as the default on the operating system. Furthermore, even though there are currently options like Google Chrome and Firefox, they all had to leave aside their respective rendering engines to use the engine from Safari (WebKit), in order to be present on Ma's smartphone and tablet.

Rules are rules the siege of Apple exists and many may even wonder why, then, a company would waste time creating a browser for iOS. But there are reasons, yes. The good thing about having several browsers (even with the same engine) is that, if you use the Google or Mozilla browser on your Mac / PC, continuity on iOS becomes possible. In other words: browsing history, syncing favorites, tabs and many other features are available, which you would not have if you used Chrome on macOS and Safari on iOS, for example.

Microsoft Edge for iOS and Android

Probably thinking about these benefits and to mark presence in the mobile world the Microsoft today announced the launch of its browser Edge for both iOS and Android. The main resource (and the biggest reason for someone to use the Microsoft browser on an iOS device), without a doubt, the “Continue on PC” feature, which allows, as the name implies, to continue browsing the iGadget on the PC, sending the page in question to the computer (something very similar to Apple's Handoff feature). It is good to note that “Continue on PC”, however, will only be available to the general public when the company makes available the Windows 10 Fall Creators Updateon the 17th of October.

In addition, as I commented above, wait for features like book sync, history, reading list and ebooks according to The Verge, there is no tab synchronization available and the history synchronization works. As you can imagine, the default search engine for Edge is Bing, but you can switch to Google or Yahoo without any problem.

The beta version of Microsoft Edge for iOS is now available to members of the Windows Insiders program, with distribution being made through Apple's TestFlight platform. For now, the browser is only available in English and others will be added in the future. In addition, the Redmond company said that compatibility with iPads and the Android version will be released later.
