It took a while, but finally someone at Microsoft “let it out” and it came from Gavriella Schuster, general manager of Windows product management at the Redmond giant.
When asked about the recent migration trend to tablets, promoted (and dominated) by the iPad, she acknowledged:
They (netbooks) are definitely being cannibalized. These are in fact secondary devices. But they are being cannibalized.
As with smartphones, once again Microsoft is well behind in the race for this new market segment. The first strong competitors to the iPad (first generation) with Windows are only expected to hit the market next year.
