Apple announced the expansion of its MFi program (Made for iPhone / iPod / iPad) for accessory and peripheral manufacturers, introducing even more specifications compatible with the standard Lightning. Among these, USB-C audio adapters and Ethernet cables for Lightning can now be certified by Apple. The information is from the Japanese website MacOtakara.
MFi program members were informed of the news in the report “MFi Accessory Interface Specifications Release R31”, which specifies support for new adapters compatible with iOS devices. This also certified some accessories that had already been announced, such as Anker’s USB-C to Lightning audio adapter, created for Macs with USB-C ports and the new iPad Pro.
Ethernet adapters for Lightning have also been filed by Apple. In this case, the Belkin Lightning Ethernet + charger (PoE) adapter is one of the products now certified by the Apple program – it is also available on the American Apple Store Online.
Finally, Apple also inserted Realtek’s “RLT8111EPU” Gigabit Ethernet controller into the MFi program.
With the expansion, it is expected that the newly announced MFi specifications will result in the manufacture of even more options of accessories of these types, with some of these products expected to be launched in the coming months.
