The Mac mini launched earlier this week by Apple brings another novelty that we did not comment on in the post about the availability of Mac OS X 10.6.4, but we brushed on one about incompatibilities of the machine with Windows via Boot Camp: its SD slot supports now SDXC memory cards.

Apple does not highlight the novelty, indicating the presence of the SD card as it already exists on other Macs (these, however, are limited to SDHC cards). With this, the new Mac mini is capable of supporting cards from 64GB to 2TB, with transfer speeds of up to 104MB per second and that is, of course, compatible with the previous ones.
THE Gizmodo published a screenshot of an SDXC card being used on Mac OS X, with one of the new Macs mini:

It is safe to say, therefore, that future Macs, especially iMacs and MacBooks Pro 13 and 15 inches will have their slots updated for this new “back side”.
