Today day may 25th, you can be sure that many people will celebrate the Geek Pride Day. This date celebrates anyone’s right to be a geek (or a nerd), and promotes geek culture around the world. The date was chosen to commemorate the day of the launch of the Episode IV: A New Hope, the first film in the saga Star Wars, a classic of geek culture, released on May 25, 1977.
THE Nerd Pride Festival, which took place between 1998 and 2000 in New York City, was the beginning of the celebration of this date. In 2006, the first official celebration of the date took place in Spain and on the internet, when 300 geeks made a PAC MAN in Madrid. In that same event, an unpretentious manifesto was made about the rights and responsibilities of the geek community, giving indications that the Geek Pride was gaining more and more strength.
