Mate Xs: Huawei's new foldable smartphone has arrived in Portugal

Not even the COVID-19 pandemic caused Huawei to delay its technological timetable. After presenting the Mate Xs at a virtual event in Barcelona, the Chinese manufacturer's second foldable smartphone now arrives in Portuguese lands at a price of 2,499 euros.

Inside the Mate Xs is the new SOC Kirin 990 5G, with a two-core octa-core CPU and a 16-core Mali-G76 GPU. The processor includes a modem prepared for integrated fifth generation mobile networks, promising to support the entire spectrum 5G and 5G + 4G. It also has 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. The smartphone's battery promises 21% more battery life than its predecessor.

On the outside, the smartphone has the new Falcon Wing design on the hinges. Constructed from a liquid zirconium-based metal, the Mate Xs features 8 inches when opened, the rear at 6.38 inches and the front at 6.6 inches. Once opened, the smartphone allows users to personalize their experience according to their needs, supporting the Multi-Window system, in which two applications can be viewed side by side and can interact simultaneously.

When it comes to photography, Mate Xs has a Leica four lens system, including a 40 MP main, an 8 MP telephoto, a 16 MP wide angle and a ToF camera to enhance the 3D depth effect. The photographic sensor system can also be used to capture selfies.

Like all new smartphones launched after the economic embargo placed by the United States Huawei in May 2019, with the inclusion of the manufacturer in the "black list" of the Donald Trump Government, Mate Xs does not have support for Google Mobile Services. At the software level, the smartphone supports the operating system EMUI 10 with Android 10.

The uncertainty regarding the use of Huawei Mobile Services has made the Chinese company reinforce investment in its application store and in supporting developers. To make up for the lack, for example, of Google Assistent, the manufacturer bet on its own intelligent personal assistant. Huawei Assistent comes pre-installed on Mate Xs, and can also be found on the AppGallery for all users of Huawei devices with the latest version of EMUI.
