MacBook Air is expected to represent 39% of global ultrathin sales in 2012

According to the DigiTimes, Taiwanese ODM Quanta Computer and Foxconn Electronics, which assemble MacBooks Air and Pro among other machines, Apple's ultra-thin notebook holds 39% of market share in 2012. For 2013, forecasts indicate that the representation of the device will drop to 28%.

This drop is due to the imminent arrival of Windows 8, Microsoft's next operating system, which should give gas to sales of ultrabooks. Meanwhile, in September, 1.5 million MacBooks left the automakers, a number that should be repeated in October. By the end of the year, Apple is expected to sell 15 million portable computers, also according to the DigiTimes.

Analyst firm IHS iSuppli also revealed some interesting figures: 10 million ultrabooks are due to be sold in 2012 and more than half of the sales are expected to take place in the current quarter, according to the company. In 2013, IHS expects 44 million ultrabooks to be sold (its initial guess was 61 million).
