Lunar Eclipse 2019: How to Watch the Astronomical Event over the Internet | Internet

A partial lunar eclipse will take place on Tuesday (16), between 17h and 20h, in Brasilia time, and have live broadcast on YouTube by TimeandData. Part of the moon is hidden by the earth because of an alignment between the stars. The phenomenon, which occurs in the western hemisphere, will be visible in almost all parts of the world, including all regions of Brazil. The eclipse coincides with the celebration of another astronomical event: the 50th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11, the aircraft responsible for taking the first man to the moon.

The lunar eclipse occurs when the moon is behind the earth, preventing the sun's rays from reaching the moon completely, casting a partial or total shadow on it. For the eclipse to occur, the stars must be completely aligned or very close to each other. The phenomenon that will be fully visible in the Eastern Hemisphere, on continents such as Australia, Africa and Europe, and partly in the Southern Hemisphere, will not be visible in the Northern Hemisphere.

In the Southern Hemisphere and Brazil, the moon rises in the sky that is partially overcast. It will be visible as soon as night falls, between 5 pm and 8 pm and its peak occurs at 6:30 pm, in Brasilia time. Astronomers indicate that viewers are looking east and explain that because it is a partial eclipse, the moon looks like its crescent phase.

Eclipse Curiosities

The eclipse occurs with an extremely rare proximity to the last lunar eclipse, which occurred in the southern hemisphere in January this year, along with two other phenomena: the supermoon and the blood moon. However, the wave of eclipses is over and this is the last eclipse of the year, the next eclipse will be visible only on May 26, 2021, in the northern hemisphere, when the moon will be overcast for about 18 min. However, the next visible eclipse in Brazil will only happen in 2022.

It is also important to remember that lunar eclipses can be observed directly. It is not necessary to use special equipment as in the case of solar eclipses. The only recommendation to watch this phenomenon is for viewers to find a clean place of buildings with good sky visibility.
