If you edit videos on your Mac using Final Cut Pro X or on any device using iMovie, you’ll feel right at home with LumaFusion, developed by the staff of Luma Touch.

In the same way that Affinity Photo is a watershed for photography on the iPad, LumaFusion is for video editing. The application comes packed with a great feature pack, combined with a lightweight and relatively simple to use interface.

When you open the app for the first time, you feel in a complex and simple environment at the same time, without help buttons on the screen itself. All application tutorials are available on the developer’s website and the feeling is close to one déjà vu, especially for those who have used older versions of iMovie.

LumaFusion has customizable layouts at the touch of a button, which can be changed according to the movie editing process.

My grade

It allows editing content in 4K at 60 frames per second, which iMovie currently does not allow. Color correction, saturation and shortcut keys make the whole process much better than in the Apple app. The sound controls are also a few steps up.

LumaFusion allows up to six different simultaneous tracks on the timeline, three of which are video / audio and three additional for narration, music and special effects. You can connect the application and access files from various cloud storage services, such as Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud Drive and OneDrive. The font previewer is a great facilitator for the editing process, helping to define input / output for each clip.

Following the FCPX’s magnetic timeline feature, LumaFusion ensures that all clips will stay together, making the whole process easier and more suitable for the iPad.

Check out a short video tutorial from him:

Another highlight of the application is the gesture control applied to the clip division – not because it is the first to support such a feature, but because of the easy and precise form defined by its developers: a two-finger touch. When you double-tap a clip on the timeline, you’ll find a very accurate and complete frame editor, delivering impressive results, the same or very similar to professional video editors available for computers.

There are also tools to undo / redo, duplicate, divide and delete clips. After completing the work, you can share directly on various services (such as Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud Drive and OneDrive), in addition to saving to your own Photos library (Photos) or send to your Mac via AirDrop – be it just the audio / video or the full clip, with all the project’s metadata and even in different cadence settings (3,976, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94 , 60, 120 and 240).

LumaFusion - Timeline

Much more than just adding items to a timeline, the application makes it possible to edit media properties, adding titles, special effects, mixing audios and much more.

LumaFusion is, without a doubt, one of the most powerful video editors for iOS, adding great tools for people who edit content while producing it or simply use an iPad as their primary device.
