THE Logitech, manufacturer of peripherals and accessories for gadgets, this week launched its version of Smart Keyboard Folio for the new iPad Pro (third generation). Call Slim Folio Pro, the case is compatible with both 11 and 12.9 inch models, and has some very interesting features.
First, the connection of Slim Folio Pro to the iPad Pro is via Bluetooth, not from the Smart Connector. What would be a negative point turns out not to be such a bad feature, as the case has a battery that lasts up to three months on a single charge – in addition to not draining the iPad Pro battery so much.
This is even more impressive given that the Slim Folio Pro keyboard is backlit, unlike Apple’s accessory. In addition, the Logitech case has a set of shortcut keys similar to that of Apple keyboards, but aimed at iOS functions such as showing / hiding the virtual keyboard, going to the Home screen, among others.
There are three ways to use Slim Folio Pro to perform specific tasks more efficiently, such as drawing and typing. In “Typing Mode”, just fit the iPad Pro screen at the height of the keyboard and type in comfort; the “Sketch Mode” allows you to retract the keyboard so that you can draw and write it down with Apple Pencil (there is even a place to store and recharge it); and in “Reading Mode”, the keyboard is fully retracted so you can read with iPad Pro without any problems.
In all modes, the Logitech case keeps the front and back of the iPad Pro protected from scratches and splashing water. All of this, of course, adds up a little to the total weight of the device – more precisely 552 grams in the 11 ″ version and 707 grams in the 12.9 ″ version.
In comparison to Apple’s Smart Keyboard Folio, the Logitech accessory is cheaper ($ 120 for the 11 ″ model and $ 130 for the 12.9 ″ model, against $ 180 and $ 200 for the Apple case, respectively) and has some extra options, like the backlit keyboard and iOS shortcut keys. On the other hand, Slim Folio Pro does not use the Smart Connector to recharge and, in case of low power, it will be necessary to connect it to the USB-C port of the iPad Pro.
The Slim Folio Pro is already on pre-order on the American Logitech website and should arrive soon at the Brazilian store. Local prices have not yet been released.
