What does OLED?

LG OLED Smart TV diagramThe biggest differential of OLED screens is the absence of the backlight that illuminates the pixels

Before we leave for the TVs themselves, a brief explanation about what the OLED, English acronym for Organic Light Emitting Diode. Widely used among smartphones, OLED screens differ from LED screens because they don't need auxiliary lighting: basically, while an LED screen needs a set of LEDs illuminating the panel that forms the image, the OLED can illuminate every pixel individually, because each of these pixels formed by a diode (gives the name) that lights up with the passage of a electric current.

In addition to save energy, since black pixels are turned off in this type of panel, OLED screens usually have colors more alive and a more accurate contrast, since each pixel is controlled individually. On a screen Common LED, as if each pixel were a glass window with a large lamp behind, in this case, the LED. When you turn on the lamp, the light goes through the glass and filtered for him, assuming his color.

J on the screens OLED, following this same analogy, the window glass would have the ability to “Light up alone”, which, in practice, would give you much more need about the tone of color and about the shine they emit.

Demonstration burn inBurn-In manifests itself as a mark on the screen, which can be permanent or temporary

Still on the OLED TVs, much is speculated about this type of panel if degrade over time, presenting the so-called burn-in. Briefly, burn-in occurs when a particular image displayed by long periods and creates a kind of watermark on the screen, being visible over other contents as a kind of “ghost image”.

Despite being an understandable fear, any and all screen technology can acquire burn-ins, even the old ones CRT TVs “Tube” had this flaw. For circumvent the problem, in addition to the OLED technology having improved over the years, most equipment with it, especially TVs that have a long useful life, have resources that avoid (and often even correct) the appearance of these brands.

If the LG OLED W9 already seemed distant from our reality, the Z9, the biggest and most expensive TV in the entire line, seems to have come from another planet. Just to give you an idea, the 8K resolution is twice as high as 4K, allowing a TV with 88 inches like this has the same pixel density as a 42 inch UHD (4K) TV. The design of the LG OLED Z9 was inspired by another famous TV from the brand, the LG SIGNATURE OLED R: responsible for giving LG more than 70 awards design, it had a similar look to the Z9, but had a flexible screen, able to retract into the base when the TV was turned off.
