Learn how to use all the camera features of Zenfone 4

Asus' Zenfone camera interface has been refined over the years. Functions and adjustments have been placed and removed in order to make the experience as good as possible. Something every brand does, alis. In the case of Zenfone 4, the cool thing is that we can count on automatic and manual use. Let's know the main interface in the image below.

On this left side we have some basic adjustments to be modified with each photo if you wish. First, we have the flash, which is not automatic. You can also leave it on for all photos, off and torch, where it stays on without stopping.

Below is a self-timer if you want to give it 2, 5 or 10 seconds before shooting a photo. Next up is portrait mode, one that blurs the background behind the person. Then you see a square with numbers inside: where you choose the picture format, whether 4: 3, square, 1: 1, fully square, or 16: 9, more straight.

There is the HDR, which can be turned off, on or automatic. Note that neither it nor flash work with portrait mode enabled. Finally we have more configurations, of which I already speak.

In the main area we have, in the upper left corner, indication of the shooting mode (Auto or Manual) along with the number of megapixels of the photo. Below is the information on which of the rear cameras are in use, the main or the open angle. By the way, to the right side you see a button in the shape of a pill where you can see and choose which camera you want to use: a mountain for main and several for an open angle.

On the right side there are several round buttons. The first one leads to the photo gallery. The second switch between the rear and front cameras. The third is the one that shoots the picture, followed by the fourth that, when touched, already starts a video. Finally there is the button that toggles between Automatic and Manual mode.

More in the corner, notice three small points. The middle one shows that we are in the main window. Drag your finger in the middle of the screen and, to one side, we find the filters for the image and, for the other, the camera's photo modes: Beauty, Super Resolution, Panorama, Time Lapse, Auto, Manual, GIF Animation and Slow camera.

Extra Settings

Now that we know the main interface, let's take a look at the settings, that gear button in the lower left corner. You can choose the resolution of the camera (ranging from 6 to 12 megapixels), time stamp (best left off, it goes over the photo and no longer comes out), Asus watermark (unnecessary, avoid), touch resizing, focus mode (smart, continuous or infinite) and video quality (from 640 x 480 pixels to 4K, also featuring Full HD at 60 fps).

In this area you can also enable gridlines, which is recommended for help with different framing and to know when the image is straight. And also to disable the camera's shooting noise, the location services (which keep the information of where in the world she was clicked in the photo) and anti-flicker (leave at 60 Hz).

Finally, choose whether to use the volume key (whether to zoom or shoot a photo), the storage location (internal memory or memory card, if there is one), and whether or not to activate the flash camera (the camera turns on). pressing the volume key twice), an interesting shortcut that helps you turn on the camera faster so you miss fewer turning points.

The manual mode

Let's now go through Zenfone 4's Pro camera mode. It gives you access to more photo adjustments than usual. That way you can take better pictures in certain situations if you have the patience for it.

Drag your finger up in the main window and tap Pro mode. New commands appear on the right side and some information is shown below the screen. A permanent center circle also appears, which is the level for making straight pictures. Only when it is green will the camera be aligned.

This information below shows a graph with the amount of light in the image (the so-called histogram) and the white compensation, ISO, aperture, and shutter speed ratios. This data starts updating itself, and everything is not automatic.

From there you can tweak the settings on the side, such as white balance (which changes for each type of light or light temperature), light compensation, ISO (which goes from 25, to over-lit places, to 3200, for specific night shots), the choice of camera, shutter speed (ranging from optimal 1/10000 to 32 seconds, great for catching night stars) and the distance to focus.

It is worth tweaking a little on each of these parameters to see what changes and how it behaves in each situation.

Essential Tips

Zenfone Light Adjustment 4 / AndroidPIT (screenshot)

Adjust the light in auto mode – Tapping your finger on the screen, you tell camera where she should focus and take her measurements. But if you think the image is going to be too dark, touch the screen and wait for the circle to turn green with a sun by your side. Raising the sun up and down you adjust the light.

Choose your favorite modes – In addition to the automatic, the Asus camera already comes with the manual mode chosen in the right shortcut. But if you enter the mode area by dragging your finger from the bottom up, you will see that the Pro has a pin on it. Keep your finger pressed over the way you use it most and it will take Pro's place on the home shortcut.

Super Resolution mode and an ordinary photo / AndroidPIT

Super Resolution Mode – With this mode, you can shoot up to 49 megapixels, due to a trick with cameras and processing. It's a great way to photograph things that need extreme detail, like a document.

Choose how much of the video to be in slow motion / AndroidPIT (screenshot)

Slow Motion Mode – Here you make slow-motion videos, which always yield fun times. There are two qualities, Full HD at 120 fps and HD at 240 fps. The more fps, the smoother the movement. After you record, the editor shows the entire video, with only a portion set in slow motion. You can move the video indicator by selecting which part of it to keep in slow motion.

Portrait Mode – That's the way it's in fashion, haha. It blurs the background behind the person, resulting in very beautiful portraits. To do so keep the camera away from the person and look for a place with good lighting. It also works with objects and animals, but I need more patience.
