On iPhones with a 5-inch screen (as in the case of the 5s), the on / off button is on the top of the device.

2 Slide the button that appears to turn off the device at the top of the screen.

If the physical buttons on your device are no longer working, you can turn off the iPhone through Settings, the software.
1 Open the System Settings.
2 Go in General »Disconnect.
