Learn how to customize Apple Watch predefined responses

Let’s face it: conversation on Apple Watch it is relatively complicated. At least for me, continuing a conversation on the watch is not one of the most pleasant experiences, but there are resources that facilitate or even resolve most of these obstacles.

Among these, the Apple Watch can transcribe what you want to say and send it as a text message to your recipient, which is not very reliable given the ability to understand our language. However, to resolve this you can simply send a voice message, as explained in this tutorial.

But, in those situations where sending or listening to an audio may be recommended / allowed, the good old written message is the best option. In some cases, the recipient requires a short, simple response, which can be sent from the Apple Watch with just a touch, via canned responses.

By default, watchOS defines some answers that can be useful for the user in any situation. However, it is possible to create new personalized responses with phrases or terms that you use repeatedly and thus send messages to your conversations even more easily.

To view / use the predefined responses, swipe down (or rotate the Digital Crown) until the end of the message notification. However, if you don’t like any options, follow the next steps to customize your default responses:

  1. On the iPhone, open the Watch app and tap on the “My Watch” tab.
  2. Access the menu Messages »Standard Responses.

  3. Touch a standard answer to change it or select “Add answer” to create a new option.
