LaCie launches hard drives developed in collaboration with designer Philippe Starck

The LaCie people have always had a keen taste for the design of their hard drives, and the two new models revealed by LaCie last week reflect this idea well. Created with the collaboration of French designer Philippe Starck, Starck Desktop and Starck Mobile cater well to desktop users and those who want a tasteful touch for their portable HD.

LaCie - Starck Mobile

Both have an aluminum-coated exterior that gives them both strength, but also makes them much heavier, works via USB and is easy to set up for use on Mac OS X. You can use them with Time Machine or a utility backup that LaCie itself provides with the hard drives when connecting them to the machine for the first time, an assistant exposes all the options available to the user.

In the desktop edition, a touch-sensitive surface was also mounted, which, when configured, allows the user to open any program depending on how he touches this special region of the HD. In addition, its status light is shaped like a symbol present in Philippe Starck's signature, changing color according to the activity of the hard disk.

Starck Desktop is available in models with 1TB (US $ 130) and 2TB (US $ 250) of capacity, while Starck Mobile has models of 320GB (US $ 100) and 500GB (US $ 140) of capacity.
