Unlike Apple and Intel, hard drive maker LaCie is investing in the USB 3.0 standard and today announced a series of new solutions for Mac users interested in the technology.
With a special USB 3.0 driver for Mac OS X, it is bringing the standard to Macs with two distinct products: a PCI Express Card ($ 50) and an ExpressCard / 34 ($ 60), both backward compatible with USB 2.0 and capable of achieving the maximum theoretical speed of USB 3.0, 5Gbps. The choice of model depends on your Mac, but both contain two USB 3.0 ports each.
Offering these solutions, LaCie hopes to bring its entire line of USB 3.0 hard drives to Mac users, including 2big USB 3.0, d2 USB 3.0, Minimus, Rugged USB 3.0 and Rikiki USB 3.0.
