The tour also privileges tourists and residents with a beautiful view, which includes the BaĂa de Todos os Santos and the Mercado Modelo. Entrance tickets to the Elevator are priced at R $ 0.25.

In Doodle, the homepage of the search site replaces the letters of the search engine logo with a colorful and woody illustration that reproduces the scenery around the Elevator. In addition, it also has some arrows that show the movement of transport of about a million people per month.

In 1600, the idea of building a means of transport that connected the upper and lower parts of the city of Salvador was born through an initiative by Jesuit missionaries. On occasion, they installed a rope lift capable of transporting people and packages to a height of 72 meters. In 1869, construction began on a mechanical elevator on the site, whose work was led by Augusto Frederico de Lacerda and his brother Antonio de Lacerda, a duo who gave his name to the tourist attraction. The work lasted five years until its inauguration in 1873.

Today, the elevator consists of two towers divided into four shares, capable of carrying 32 passengers per trip, lasting about 30 seconds.
