Amazon recently acquired a company called Touchco, which specializes in touchscreen technologies.
Regarding the iPad, we will call this "coincidence".
According to NYTimes, The staff of the company will be merged with the Kindle hardware division on Amazon, which will also incorporate all of its technologies.
Touchco started out as a Media Research Lab project at New York University, consists of a group of six people and was yet to launch its first commercial product.
The company's basic technology consists of "interpolation of resistance sensitive to force", and the cost of its displays would be supposedly "much lower" than those used in iPads / iPhones.
After the iPad, nothing is more obvious than Amazon running to launch a Kindle with a touch screen, preferably colored (it's already time, right?).
