Kaspersky leaves alert for malware shares disguised as documents about Coronavirus

At a time when the Coronavirus has raised concerns worldwide, leading even the technological giants to take drastic containment measures, hackers have already started to explore the internet to spread malware related to the topic. Kaspersky warns users to be careful when opening documents whose designation indicates instructions on videos on ways of protecting and detecting the virus, as well as updates on the subject.

It is certain that documents in PDF, mp4 and docx formats can mask malicious files. The security systems of the security company discovered these files, which functioned as "vehicles" for different threats, such as Trojans and worms, capable of destroying, blocking, modifying and copying data, as well as interfering with the operation of computers and computer networks, says the company.

The coronavirus and the evolution of its propagation status are nowadays news in all media, being this a topic so meditative that it was already used by hackers as bait. So far, we have identified 10 malware files, but this number is expected to increase, due to the interest that the disease raises, not only with the media, but also with the general population, commented the Kaspersky analyst for malware.

The company listed malicious files with the term Coronavrus with the following names: Worm.VBS.Dinihou.rWorm.Python.Agent.cUDS: DangerousObject.Multi.GenericTrojan.WinLNK.Agent.ggTrojan.WinLNK.Agent.ewHEUR: Trojan.WinLNK. Agent.genHEUR: Trojan.PDF.Badur.b

Kaspersky recommends users to avoid suspicious links and choose the official sources to obtain the information. Be aware of the extensions of files attached or downloaded, especially documents with a .exe or .ink extension. Finally, keep your computer protected with up-to-date antivirus systems.
