At the end of August, we talked about a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter from Kanex that already had support for digital audio but via USB. Now, the same manufacturer has launched a new product model with native support for 5.1 digital audio output found on MacBooks Pro, MacBooks Air, Macs mini and iMacs.
The adapter transmits video at 1080p and is powered by the USB port itself. In Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, the digital audio output is automatically configured, but the coolest thing is that HDTV video resolutions are also available, as we've discussed here.
Apparently, the demand for the accessory is very high: Kanex is limiting orders to one unit per consumer as of today, for the moment only in the United States. Its suggested price of $ 60.
