A survey released recently by the Enterprise Desktop Alliance revealed that Macs are much cheaper machines to manage in corporate environments than PCs. The conclusion was made based on interviews with 260 IT administrators from large companies in the United States. EDA members include Centrify, Absolute Software, Group Logic, Web Help Desk and, more recently, IBM.

The survey determined that Macs are cheaper in six out of seven computer management categories: problem solving, help desks, systems configuration, user training and support infrastructure (servers, network and printers). Software licensing fees are cited as an issue on both platforms.
One of the biggest difficulties found for the spread of Macs in companies is its high initial cost, which is apparently higher than that of PCs. Outside, a conventional Dell costs US $ 400, while the most basic Mac offered by Apple is the mini, for US $ 600. . However, most do not easily see the total costs involved in maintaining these machines not only in the short term, but also in the medium and long term (this is called the total cost of ownership). that Apple’s offerings really differ.
Overall, administrators say that Macs cost 20% less than PCs in solving technical problems. No wonder they increasingly enter corporations, albeit slowly.
