iPod classic with the days numbered?

iPod classic 120GBWhat an unfortunate reality, Mac-reader (I think I'm inspired today)!

All signs indicate that our nostalgic classic, the grandfather of current iPods, may go to the nursing home in Cupertino ahead of schedule, as the inevitable shift in market preference for flash-based storage solutions may be putting the production of 1.8 inch hard drives at risk.

Even the recent efforts of Samsung and Toshiba, the last active manufacturers in the category to offer 250GB options aimed at the netbook and portable players market have proved inefficient. With the steady decline in the customer base, it is possible that Apple will finally decide to discontinue the iPod model with greater capacity.

The choice of hard drives with this dimension was due to the adoption of a thinner design and the response to consumers who, in surveys at the time, pointed out that they were not interested in models of high capacity (pity that similar initiatives do not happen here ). In fact, it could already use models with 240GB that were available to it, but ended up opting for the previous model.

hd versus flash memories

Two other factors are added to the scenario: Apple does not like to depend on a fickle flow in the supply of components, and the current speculation about the future launch of a 64GB iPod touch later this year.

Is it time to say goodbye to iPod classic?
