iPhone XS Max gets in the flashlight in 4G / LTE performance tests

Last November, we commented on a test of PCMag which compared the 4G / LTE performance of Apple's "X" line iPhones. At that time, the new flagships Ma gave a bath in the “inferior” model XR; but how do they fare when compared to devices from other manufacturers?

THE PCMag returned to the labs and released a comparative test of top-of-the-line smartphones for 4G / LTE. Among the selected devices are the iPhone XS Max, the newly announced OnePlus 7 Pro, O Samsung Galaxy S10 it's the LG V40.

As we know, iPhone XS Max uses Intel's supported XMM7560 modem technology. LTE Advanced Carrier Aggregation (or CA) of 5 carriers, which allows high 4G / LTE data rates to be achieved; still the gadget Ma can reach a maximum of 1Gb / s, as it adds fewer carriers through the MIMO 4 × 4 antenna.

Meanwhile, the OnePlus 7 Pro and Galaxy S10 use Qualcomm's X24 modem, but they are not exactly the same. The S10 uses all features of the modem, including 7 carrier aggregation to achieve speeds up to 2Gb / s. Already OnePlus 7 Pro supports 5 carrier aggregation and speeds up to 1.2Gb / s.

In tests with good signal, there was not much difference in performance between iPhone XS Max and the latest Samsung and OnePlus devices as you can see in the graph above. LG's V40, however, has remained strong since the start of the test (and leaves the iPhone eating dust in some situations).

when the signal goes down things tighten (even more) for the iPhone. In the low signal test, the flagship Apple achieved the slowest speeds, being outperformed by all Qualcomm chips. Above the iPhone XS Max came, respectively, the Galaxy S10 and OnePlus 7 Pro, which virtually tied with the LG V40 at the top.

Specifically in the low signal test, the results remained shameful on Apple's side. Once again, the iPhone XS Max was last, while the Galaxy S10 was surpassed by OnePlus 7 Pro and 6T. The LG V40, considered by PCMag the best smartphone of 2018 in terms of 4G / LTE performance, remained sovereign in this test.

With peace re-established between Apple and Qualcomm, we'll see what the chipmaker has in store for the upcoming iPhones and how they will perform in future 4G / LTE speed and performance tests. Perhaps we will not follow the results of modems made by Apple itself in the not too distant future.
