iPhone 7 and iPad Air 2 are among the most popular devices in South America

Last week, we commented on how people are taking, on average, four years to change their iPhone – an issue that affects not only the smartphone market, but also users’ preference for a specific model of gadget flagship of Apple.

In this sense, a research by ScientiaMobile (released by Pocketnow) revealed that iPhone 7 (7.66%), launched in September 2016, was the most popular smartphone model in North America in the last quarter of 2018, followed by iPhone 8 Plus (7.32%) and X (6.95%), launched the following year. Over here, in South America, the iPhone 7 (3.33%) is second only to the Galaxy J7 Prime (3.76%), from Samsung.

Still on the numbers of Apple and Samsung, the only Android smartphone that gained any share (in terms of popularity) from the third to the fourth quarter of last year (in North America) was the Galaxy Grand Prime +, which rose by 0, 01%. As for the iPhones, the model 8 had a gain of 0.80%, while the iPhones X and 8 Plus rose 0.72% and 0.63%, respectively.

Even among iPhones, the 2016 device reigns with a 4.69% share. Finally, the most recent models appear, led by the iPhone XS Max (0.99%) – followed by the XS (0.76%) and the XR (0.69%), which goes against the study published by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP).

In the universe of tablets, Apple is also counting an advantage over other manufacturers: the 11 most popular devices in North America at the end of last year were all iPads, with the iPad Air 2 leading the ranking with 14.39%. Only one model of the iPad Pro (the 9.7-inch) entered the survey, which achieved 3.34% in popularity.

In South America, the scenario was not very different, and the iPad Air 2 also led the popularity indexes with a large margin for the second place … which is also an iPad (fourth generation)! Meanwhile, Samsung was able to take advantage of the popularity of the Galaxy Tab E (1.68%; 4.52%) and A (1.42%) in North America, and also the Galaxy Tab 3 (3.92% ), in South America.

ScientiaMobile obtained the above results from device traffic analysis and a survey that addressed several users on various topics, including how often these people parked their devices to display videos and images horizontally and support NFC.
