iPhone 4 is Apple's smartphone with the highest production cost since the 2G model

A study by iSuppli on the components used in the production of the iPhone 4 suggests that it is one of the most expensive models ever created by Apple, being only cheaper than the original iPhone, sold between June 2007 and July 2008. According to the study, the company spends $ 187.51 to manufacture each unit of its new smartphone, while the first cost approximately $ 223.

Of all the components used by Ma, the most expensive are the 640 × 960 pixel LCD screen with IPS technology and LED backlit (dubbed by Apple as “Retina Display” and produced by LG) and the A4 processor (produced by Samsung) which cost $ 28.50 and $ 10.75, respectively. Several other additions to the iPhone 4 also contribute to its price increase, including the gyroscope (which costs $ 2.60 more than the standard accelerometer) and mobile phone antennas and wireless connectivity.

Because it is approximately 5% more expensive to produce than the iPhone 3GS (whose components cost US $ 178.96 last year), this is likely to be the reason why the device did not have any increase in internal memory, which would further increase plus its production cost and would compromise subsidies. Of course, this may also have been caused by its internal dimensions (which are extremely limited), but it is not known for certain.
