“IPhone 12” upload may not be as good as expected

The most famous analyst in the world Apple is back, now talking about something very technical – but that is still important: connectivity of future iPhones.

In mid-2019, Ming-Chi Kuo had commented that iPhones with 5G capability would have support for 2 × 2 MIMO uplink, which in practice would mean higher upload speeds. The company would use up to six power amplifiers on “iPhones 12” to improve connectivity, but now Kuo has changed his mind. In a new note, he said that future devices * will not * support 2 × 2 MIMO uplink.

If this limitation will be noticed, that’s another story, as it depends on the infrastructure of the operators – but the truth is that you will hardly notice any difference, since it is almost impossible to reach the download / upload peaks supported by devices currently on 4G / networks 5G from any operator, whether in Brazil, Portugal, the United States, etc.

Rumor has it that all “iPhone 12” models will support 5G, and that Apple will use the modem Snapdragon X55, from Qualcomm. Depending on the region, variants of the “iPhone 12” may support bands only sub-6GHz, or mmWave + sub-6GHz.
