iPhone 11: What changes and stays the same with XR

Just now, we explored the changes brought about by the iPhones 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max (it will be hard to get used to that name) compared to their predecessors. Now, instead of doing the same with iPhone 11, which has as its direct predecessor the iPhone XR and several points in common with it.

So here we will take a different approach: let's comb the aspects of the new smartphone, noting what has changed from its predecessor and highlighting the points that remain unchanged. Come on then?

Lower price

This is perhaps the most significant change of the new generation, perhaps because it is the only one that was not exhaustively predicted by the rumors industry. In the United States, the iPhone 11 starts from $ 699, a 6.6% reduction from the $ 749 charged by the iPhone XR entry model until yesterday.

Of course, we will have to see how this reduction will be reflected in Brazil (if that happens), as Apple has not yet announced the prices of new iPhones around here. Anyway, it is a good indication that Ma is, yes, concerned about the evasion of consumers because of their high prices.

It is also worth remembering that the iPhone XR, unlike its brothers XS and XS Max, is still in line and has suffered a reduction in price, starting now at $ 599. In Brazil, the device also suffered a readjustment and now part of $ 4,299.

Equal dimensions

Just use the Apple iPhone comparator and check that all three dimensions of the iPhone 11 are identical iPhone XR (150.9 Ă— 75.7 Ă— 8.3mm). The weight of the handsets is also the same, 194 grams.

Since the side buttons and connectors on the handsets seem unchanged, the similarity creates a positive side effect for iPhone XR owners: you can use the new iPhone 11 cases on it as long as you don't mind having a hole for the iPhone. camera much larger than your device's single lens needs.

The reverse, of course, is not the case because of such a square for the rear cameras, it is not possible to use an iPhone XR case on the iPhone 11.

Dual camera

The unique camera of the iPhone XR has given way to a much larger module with two lenses. Here we have two 12 megapixel sensors each, with ultra-wide and wide-angle lenses; in practice this means that we will have a zoom out 2x optics do not confuse with the zoom in XS and XS Max iPhones, which was obtained with a telephoto lens (present here). The idea is to capture more of the scenery, with a viewing angle of 120.

Here, too, is the new brighter, slower sync Flash True Tone, along with several new features in the software: Night Mode helps you take pictures in low light, and Portrait Lighting Mode now has six effects (on iPhone XR was three). We also have the new generation of Smart HDR.

In terms of video, we have support for audio zoom and QuickTake mode, which starts shooting by holding the camera capture button. Extended dynamic range now works on videos up to 60 frames per second (up to 30 before).

The front camera has also improved, and now has a 12MP sensor capable of recording 4K video at up to 60 frames per second.

Visual almost equal

Looking ahead or in profile (and ignoring the new colors, of course), iPhone 11 is identical to iPhone XR. The only change is at the rear, with the new camera module now integrated into the back glass and the vertically centered Apple logo. As with the iPhones 11 Pro, the inscription “iPhone” went through the air, creating an even more visual clean.

Even better processor

Just like the iPhones 11 Pro, we have here the new chip A13 Bionicwhich, according to Apple, contain the most powerful CPU and GPU already placed in a mobile device which we will naturally have to prove with benchmarks and actual use tests.

O Neural engine It has also been upgraded to the third generation for even faster and more complex machine learning processes.

Equal screen

We still have the same screen Liquid Retina HD which is nothing more than a marketing term for a 6.1-inch IPS LCD panel. Resolution (HD), contrast (1400: 1), wide color tone (P3) and maximum brightness (625 nits) remain unchanged, as does the presence of True Tone technology.

Shamefully equal loader

For those who heard a hiss of hope indicating the death of the infamous 5W charger that has been with the iPhone since its first generation, unfortunately this is not the case. Yes, the 11 Pro models come with a new fast 18W charger, but the iPhone 11 still comes with the old peripheral version, with the same old 5W / USB-A and the same slow charging.

5W power adapter

It can be argued that the choice was a way for Ma to cut costs and thereby reduce the price of the device. But still serious, Apple?

Enhanced Strength

While iPhone XR was IP67 certified, iPhone 11 has the same IP68 certificate as the more expensive brothers. It can be submerged to depths of up to two meters for a maximum of 30 minutes.

In addition, the glass on the front and back of the iPhone 11 has been reinforced through a unique exchange process.

3D Touch died for good

This is hardly a change, since the iPhone XR no longer had the 3D Touch. But it is worth remembering: the feature was definitely filed Apple's new line, and is not present on either the iPhone 11 or the iPhones 11 Pro. Good evening, sweet prince.

New colors

In contrast to the vibrant colors of the iPhone XR, Apple has decided to take a much more sober but still multicolored approach this year. The iPhone 11 will be sold in purple, yellow, green, black, white and red versions, the latter in the traditional (PRODUCT) RED, which is the only vibrant of the new class.

The same capabilities

We have iPhone 11 versions with 64GB, 128GB or 256GB The same as the iPhone XR offered until yesterday (with the new releases, the most expensive option of the old device ceased to exist).

Battery supposedly a little better

The iPhone XR was already Apple's longest-running smartphone, and the company made the bold promise to further improve its endurance away from the socket. According to Apple, the iPhone 11 has a battery that lasts one more hour that of its predecessor since, as well as the performance, must be proven with tests and checking the part numbers, not yet disclosed.

Connectivity

As with the iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 has also gained support for Wi-Fi 6 protocol networks, with much higher maximum transfer speeds (up to 38% better).

New U1 Chip

Here, too, is the presence of the new spatial location chip U1 which, as we describe in detail in this article, will probably work in conjunction with the Apple Tags, the trackers are not yet released from Ma. For now, it also serves to provide an improvement to AirDrop, directional indication of users near you, and to search more accurately other Apple devices that rely on the chip.

wider audio

The iPhone 11 also features space audio playback (which simulates surround sound for an immersive experience) and is compatible with the technology. Dolby atmosphere.

The rest? The usual

Moreover, nothing to declare: you can expect from iPhone 11 the same as you got (or would get) with an iPhone XR, such as Apple Pay support and the “Hey Siri” command, the Lightning connector EarPods, the lack of headphone jack, eSIM technology support and Dual SIM, among other things.

What did you think?
