IOS bug disables iPhones with their dates changed to January 1, 1970

From the series “Kids, don't do this at home”: you'll know how and why, a Reddit user recently discovered that changing the date of iPhones to January 1, 1970 it simply disables the devices completely, turning them into “bricks”.

As the video above shows, the process consists of going to General Settings Date and Time, deselect the option "Automatically" and then gradually bring the date back until it reaches 1/1/1970 (not coincidentally, the starting date of Unix). Then, if you try to restart the iPhone you can’t get past the screen again. boot and incredibly there is nothing that can be done, nor put the device in DFU mode and try a restoration. That is, don't play thereby.

While the result of the thing is absurdly worrying, the bug itself should not affect anyone "by natural means". The biggest problem here is that devices reach the hands of malicious people; I don't doubt anything that soon, we will soon see cases of kids doing this kind of thing on Apple Retail Stores iPhones, for example. 🙄

The bug apparently affects any 64-bit device running iOS 8 or higher, that is, from iPhones 5s (A7 chip) to C, possibly including also iPads and iPods touch. Since iOS 9.3 is still in the testing phase, let's hope that Apple implements a fix on it in time.
