iOS 14 will be compatible with iPhone 6s or higher; check out the devices that will run the iPadOS 14 and macOS Big Sur

Regardless of the new features that Apple introduced in its new operating systems, one of the first questions users ask is whether iOS 14, iPadOS 14, macOS Big Sur, watchOS 7 and / or tvOS 14 will be compatible with my devices? We are here to answer that question.

Let's get right to it, then!

Apple Products

iOS 14

The new operating system for iPhones and iPods touch will be compatible with the following devices:

  • iPhones 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max
  • XS and XS Max iPhones
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone X
  • iPhones 8 and 8 Plus
  • iPhones 7 and 7 Plus
  • iPhone 6s and 6s Plus
  • iPhones SE (1 and 2 generations)
  • iPod touch (7th generation)

That is, if iOS 13 runs, run 14! Obviously, the system will also be compatible with the future “iPhones 12”, which will be launched later this year.

iPadOS 14

Here are the tablets that will be compatible with it:

  • iPads Pro (all generations and sizes)
  • iPads (5, 6 and 7 generations)
  • iPad mini (4 and 5 generations)
  • iPad mini 4
  • Air iPads (2nd and 3rd generation)

Same here who has an iPad that runs iPadOS 13, also running 14. If Apple launches new iPads this year, they will be compatible with the new operating system, of course.

macOS Big Sur

Below, the Macs that can run the new macOS:

  • MacBook (2015 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (2013 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Late 2013 or newer)
  • Mac mini (2014 or newer)
  • iMac (2014 or newer)
  • iMac Pro (2017 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (2013 or newer)

Compared to macOS Catalina 10.15, I leave the scene MacBooks Air, Pro and Mac mini (all from 2012). As always, some features will not necessarily be compatible with some machines depending on the required technical specifications.

watchOS 7

Speaking specifically of the watch, it will be necessary to have an Apple Watch Series 3, 4 or 5 to run watchOS 7; however, you will also need to have an iPhone 6s or higher as we saw above running iOS 14 for everything to work perfectly.

Thus, compared to watchOS 6, Apple Watch Series 1 and 2 were left out.

tvOS 14

Apple did not comment, but tvOS 14 is most likely still compatible with Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K (the only two models that run the system, inclusive).

So, did your device stay out?
