iOS 13 will send audio to two pairs of AirPods; HomePod Gains Multi-User Support [atualizado]

Although many new features of the WWDC19 opening keynote have been announced soon or even unannounced, this does not mean that they do not have their value. Quite the contrary: AirPods and HomePods owners have been provided with some very interesting features that come with iOS 13, announced today.

Airpods

Apple's wireless headsets have gotten great news involving Siri.

With iOS 13, the virtual assistant can read messages from both iMessage and other SiriKit-compatible messengers (WhatsApp, for example) as soon as you receive them. And answering everything will be as easy as talking!

Another great feature is a feature that lets you share audio from an iPhone with more than one pair of AirPods (ie no sharing your headphones with anyone else).

Resource

There is no information on whether the feature works with any type of Bluetooth headset, but it is quite possible that everything will only work within Apple's ecosystem (ie, with Beats AirPods and Bluetooth headsets).

HomePod

Ma's smart speaker may not be that smash hit expected, but Apple won't give it up for it. So true that, starting with the next version of the company's mobile operating system, HomePod will gain support for Handoff feature that lets you start an activity on one device and continue it on another device with the same Apple ID.

Handoff at HomePod

This means the user can send iPhone audio to HomePod by bringing the smartphone closer to the speaker without touching anything. And don't stop there: Siri is now identifying the voices of family members using HomePod, thus inaugurating multi-user support.

More precisely, this will help all users on the same HomePod have a personalized experience using the virtual assistant, which can play (through the speaker) individual content such as messages, appointments, reminders and notes.

HomePod also gain support for thousands of third party live radio stations; Simply ask Siri to play any of the compatible stations (such as iHeartRadio, TuneIn and Radio in the United States).

Update by Rafael Fischmann 06/17/2019 19:21

With the release of iOS 13 beta 2 today, Apple has specified that the audio sharing feature initially support AirPods and Powerbeats Pro phones.

The devices that will be compatible with the feature will be:

  • iPhone 8 or higher;
  • iPad Pro 12.9 ″ (2nd generation or higher);
  • iPad Pro 11 ″;
  • iPad Pro 10.5 ″;
  • iPad (5th generation or higher);
  • iPad Air (3rd generation);
  • iPad mini (5th generation);
  • iPod touch (7th generation or higher).

It is interesting to note that not all of them have Bluetooth 5.0, so Apple's AirPlay 2 protocol should be the basis of the feature.
