Intel Launches Low-Cost Quad-Core Processor for Laptops

Intel Core 2 QuadLast weekend, Intel added five new CPUs to its processor line. The novelty that stood out was a new 2GHz Core 2 Quad Q9000 processor. Intended for notebooks, the new chip is available for US $ 348 / unit, in lots of 1,000, and has become the lowest cost model among the four core line, in which the top-of-the-line models can cost US $ 850 .

Perhaps the news is not coinciding with Macworld, which starts next week, but it would make sense if the new 17-inch MacBook Pro – since the current one has not yet migrated to the new design – arrived on the market with an option quad-core. Thus, it would offer a competitor to Acer, which was the first to announce a notebook with a four-core chip on the market.

In addition, this may be the chip that Apple has been waiting for to introduce a new iMac quad-core, since the desktop all-in-one Apple uses chips intended for notebooks due to engineering issues. Are they on Uncle Phil's list of news?
