Intel CEO says the company’s mobile chips will be very competitive, and that Apple won’t be able to ignore them

In mid-January, we said that Intel was talking to several smartphone and tablet manufacturers about its mobile chips – including Apple.

As we know, Intel dominates the PC market (servers, desktop, notebooks, ultrabooks …), but when it comes to mobile, it is far from being the giant it wants. However, she wants to because she wants to change that game. During the company’s annual investor meeting, Paul Otellini (Intel’s CEO) said his company is planning chips so competitive that even Apple won’t be able to ignore them.

Intel Roadmap

Samsung currently manufactures chips based on the ARM architecture used in iGadgets. The A5X, which equips the new iPad, is manufactured in a 45 nanometer process, while the new variant of the A5 (used in third generation Apple TVs and the 16GB iPad 2), is based on a 32nm process. However, Intel wants to enter the market by kicking the door: in 2013 it intends to launch its mobile chips based on 22nm architectures, while in 2014 the process used will be 14nm.

If she can do that, she will surely be able to get attention. It remains to be seen whether Apple (and other manufacturers) will choose to make a drastic change like this, after all, it is not easy to make such a transition.
