Earlier this week Intel revealed that it acquired Israeli chip maker Habana Labs. The purchase, valued at approximately $ 2 billion, is part of a larger goal, to improve the company's artificial intelligence (AI) technology, including names like Nervana Systems and Movidius.

Habana has great AI training processors

In the month of July, Habbana even announced its AI training processor Gaudi, which according to the company, is capable of being more powerful than GPU-based systems by 4x. The company located in the city of Tel Aviv, Israel, is said to have been watched for some time to be purchased.

Apparently, Intel's plan to be on the cutting edge of technologies that involve AI is working, giving the company a good advantage that is worth about $ 24 billion by 2024. In 2019, according to the company, there are statistics generating more than US $ 3.5 billion in revenue from AI (20% increase compared to the previous year). Intel Executive Vice President Navon Shenoy says:

"This acquisition advances our AI strategy, which provides customers with solutions to meet all performance needs – from the smart edge to the data center. More specifically, Habana turbocharges our AI offerings to the data center with a family of high-performance training processors and a standards-based programming environment to meet growing AI workloads. "

Intel go keep for now the team at Habana

Intel currently intends to operate Habana as an independent business unit, maintaining the current management team. Even the president of Habana, Avigdor Willenz, will remain to give advice to companies.
