Instagram's "Following" tab, which shows followers' activities, will be removed from the social network starting this week. The information was confirmed by the company to the BuzzFeed News website on Monday (7). After the changes take effect, by clicking on the heart icon, the user will only be able to view the profile's own activity.

According to Vishal Shah, Instagram product director, the "Following" tab was little used by people, and many users didn't even know the feature existed. In an interview with BuzzFeed News, he explained that Instagram does not show more activity in order to simplify the platform. The change applies to both Android and iPhones (iOS) mobile apps.

Instagram has been testing to remove activity from other followers since September. Users complained, on Twitter and on Internet forums, that the tab had suddenly disappeared. With the removal, the display app removes the "Following" and leaves only the "Activity" section, where you can check the latest activities of the user's own profile, such as new followers notifications, likes and comments. Until then, this data was located in the "Voc" tab, next to "Following".

Launched in 2011, the "Following" tab used to be the main source for discovering new content, as it showed what friends were enjoying on the social network.
